Interconnect & Roaming Analyst at Norlys

Interconnect – what?!🤔 Telco companies around the world make agreements to connect their networks crosswise so that your mobile phone works abroad and when you, as a customer call, use data or text someone. You may unknowingly become connected to different networks at different telco companies.

Interconnect looks at traffic patterns between the telco companies and makes calculations of how traffic can be exchanged most cost-effectively, as well as analyzing the possibilities for new services and settlement principles primarily for interconnect, but also for the financial part of roaming. We work with economics, law and technology.

This is where you come in | Your new everyday life at Interconnect

It’s Monday, your colleague Thomas, the department's other Interconnect Analyst, reaches out to you because he has observed that there is an atypical traffic pattern in our network. Together, you pull out traffic data and discover a pattern that resembles spoofing. You contact Vendela, Head of Fraud. You agree to check with Norlys' international Carrier to see if there is anything unusual. You and Thomas validate data from the CDR and data system(Brain) and block the routes. You give each other a high five for having reduced bad customer experiences.

On your marks | ready | set | go!

On Tuesday you have a meeting with Jeppe from Mobile Controlling, who is in charge of the Roaming area in Finance. You look into the processes you are responsible for, and remember to give your stakeholder Martin, who is the Product Manager, a call. You are in contact with engineers in our infrastructure department, lawyers in Legal and good people outside the organization.

Your closest colleagues

It is Wednesday and it means it's office day in the team. Lene, Christina, Thomas, Håkon and you meet in. You are new in this role, but the team involves each other and you in every way. It may be that you do not know everything about the entire Interconnect and Roaming area, but your colleagues have deep experience. At 11.30 you go to the canteen where a delicious lunch is served. You talk about what's going to happen over the weekend. The day is spent looking at analyses and optimizations.

Calendar gymnast

It's Thursday morning and you have a cup of coffee (or tea) and a 1:1 with your manager, Håkon. He is negotiating a transit agreement with an interconnect partner and the team is already involved in the process. Together with Lene, the department's Settlement Expert, you look at the development of similar transit cases. Then you have a meeting with Christina, the department's Interconnect expert. Last quarter there was a difference in SMS traffic towards an Interconnect partner. It has been agreed to launch an investigation. You examine and compare data and track down whether any changes have occurred after an update that could have an impact.

Inbox rider and nerd time | Operations and development

On Friday you nerd about your data in the roaming area. You want to make sure that the controls you have been working on for a while are working as they should and are similar to the traffic that our clearing house also has. You will complete your analyses, provide status to colleagues in the team and in the house. Whether you are working from home or in the office, you can look back on a week where you have learned a lot and worked on your operational tasks.

Who you are | your experience

As you may have gleaned from the diary above, you must be able to navigate in a stakeholder landscape and conduct different analysis based on traffic data. This is what drives you!
